Rune Bo Jakobsen is a Danish - Maltese architect and artist renowned for his vibrant paintings, dynamic sculptures, and significant contributions to the architectural landscape. With a career spanning over two decades, Rune brings a unique blend of technical expertise and creative vision to his work in both art and design.

Architectural Excellence
Rune graduated with a Master’s degree in Architecture from the Aarhus School of Architecture in Denmark (1994-2000), a program recognized for its focus on innovation and sustainable design, and has an extensive international background, having studied, worked, and conducted workshops in Denmark, Arizona, Italy, Finland, Greece, Mexico, and Malta.
As a warranted Perit, Rune has worked on numerous prestigious projects, including public and residential developments across Europe. His architectural expertise encompasses project management, urban planning, and design, with a keen eye for integrating functionality and aesthetics.
From 2002 to 2013 Rune led the design and implementation of Valletta Grand Harbour Regeneration Projects: the Valletta Waterfront and The Three Cities Dock Nr. 1. His innovative urban designs transformed these historic areas into vibrant, sustainable spaces featuring piazzas, pedestrian zones, and iconic structures including the crane-like bridge interlinking the Three Cities. His architectural work prioritizes the creation of public spaces and the enhancement of well-being in our surroundings.

Artistic Journey
Parallel to his architectural career, Rune has cultivated a thriving practice as an artist. His unique style 'Reactive Impressionism' explores the interplay of light and colour, capturing Malta's landscapes and urban spaces with bold, layered brushstrokes. His architectural background frequently appears in his art, with intricate pencil drawings and text woven into his compositions.
​Rune’s notable public sculptures include the 2021 ‘Olive Twist’ landmark in Å»ejtun, a 4-meter stainless steel piece inspired by Maltese silver filigree and ancient olive trees, funded by Malta’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure. Other significant works include the Malta-Australia Child Memorial ('Hope'), a 7-meter paper boat inaugurated in Valletta in 2007, and the bronze 'Embryonic Horse', inaugurated in 2024.
His creative journey also encompasses experimental projects such as the 2013 Malta Arts Fund-awarded ‘Popcorn’ public artwork, which explored innovative concrete casting techniques. His sculptures were also featured in Malta Design Week.
Academically, Rune also studied at the Istituto Statale d’Arte di Orvieto & Monopoli in Italy (1993-94). In Finland, he published "Vaasa 1917-1997 Vasa," a watercolor chronology of Finnish architecture. His illustrations were also published in DC15 by the Malta Planning Authority.
His paintings and sculptures are housed in private collections across Japan, Italy, England, Denmark, Finland, the U.S. and beyond.
